Robert Southerton was born in Shanghai but moved to England after being interned by the Japanese during WW2. In 1951 he married Dorothy Jessop in Scotland. In 1953 they arrived with two daughters, settling in Sydney. They raised 9 children-Lorna, Jan, Bob, Shiona, Simon, Lucy, Pauline, Susan and Kate.
