William & Mary Sounness (nee Grey) arrived in Albany in 1841. William was a farmer in Salton, Scotland. In Albany managed Kalgan River Property of Captain TL Symers. Then Symers Kojonup-Balgarrup Property. Then AY Hassell's Kendenup Station. In 1860 purchased 40 acres (Lot 78) Merryup, Mount Barker.
