When Leonid & Margarete worked for the two years to repay their passage, Margarete worked as a nanny for the children of William MacCartney, the then editor of the Daily News. Leonid who was an industrial engineer, helped build the Mundaring pipeline & informally he did the plans for Mundaring Weir extension as the original could have collapsed.
