The family left Birmingham on the Assisted Passage Scheme. After arriving at Fremantle they were housed at the Graylands Migrant Hostle from where they moved to Collie for a while then returned to Perth. Clarence Arthur Smith was known as Tom and the children attended the Cottesloe Primary School.
