Jack Skender was born in Dalmacia, in the mountains above the coastal town of Makarska. He came to Fremantle at the age of 17 & found his way to Kalgoorlie where he worked as a wood cutter. He returned to his homeland in 1929 when he married Matija Jukich. Both returned to Fremantle and settled in Osborne Park as market gardeners. Moved to Carnarvon in 1951 and back to Osborne Park in 1965. Jack died in 1985 and Marija in 1965. They were survived by four sons - George, Jack, Len and Eddie.
