Fred left home at 17 and worked for 3 years in Kenya before returning home for a holiday. Instead of returning to Kenya as planned, he travelled steerage to Australia and arrived with 25 pounds. He worked for Les Keamy at Watheroo, met and married Gertrud Wallace. They were very successful farmers.
