Read their story

Florence Shears travelled to Western Australia in 1927 with her sister Fanny K Want and family and settled for a short time at Lake Carmody WA where it is believed that they were the first two white women in the area. Florence Shears married Eric A Ivey on 08/03/1930 and they then settled on a virgin block of farming land at South Bodallen in the Shire of Yilgarn.
Our parents were pioneers in this isolated Eastern wheatbelt area. They lived in tents and then a mudbrick home. No scheme water, telephone or power and limited transport for many years.
Three of their four children were taught by correspondence lessons (Distant Education) by Florence.
The Ivey family were very good citizens and were supportive of all community projects.
