Born 1832 Canisbay, Caithness, Scotland, David initially became a teacher, obtained a scholarship then gained his MA at the University of Edinburgh in 1867. After 4 yrs at Theological College, appointed Presbyterian Minister at Gateshead-on-Tyne in 1872-79. Then came to WA to establish the Presbyterian Church in 1879. Organised building church & manse, travelled to eastern Australia to raise funds, took active role in education (Shearer Commission) and founded Scotch College. He died in 1891 having set the Presbyterian Church on a firm footing.
