In 1838, John blazed a trail to Bunbury to find good farming land for Governor Stirling. His wife Ellen (Helen) was a midwife & attended the birth of Lord Forrest. In 1847 John & a son built the Picton Church. John & Helen (Ellen) had two sons, William Frederick b.1821 in Scotland & Daniel McGregor b.1815, died 1898.

  • John and Helen also had a son called John Scott, he married into the Roberts family and owned the property called strathern, which is located between Bunbury and capel

  • Our history group re-enacts the 'blazing of the trail' every so often, we walk a part of the trail and give blazing a go.
    It's hard work ! Everybody should experience being blazed. Blazing in the scrub is really fun and gives a good sense of the early days. I really like it. Thanks to those hardy
