The family were independent migrants, first settling in Kojonup with their sponsors, the Lewis Family. The 1st Australian family member was added in 1954. In 1955 Erwin passed examinations qualifying him for membership of Australian Institute of Engineers as a civil engeinner. He wa employed by the PWD and was assoicated with projects from Albany in the south west to Liveringa in the north west.
