Gemma left behind her parents & siblings to go to Australia to join her husband whom she married by proxy beforehand. Gemma was the youngest of seven children. Gemma & her husband Raffaele Scalise had three children - Josephine (Giuseppina), Tom (Tommaso) and Alfonso. They have eight grandchildren.
