Morris Samelowitz was born in Poland and fled to Israel (then Palestine) as a child. The family became members of a co-operative farm in Kastina (now Be'er Tuvia, Israel). Arriving in Australian in 1910 at age 25 he worked hard until he had sufficient money to send for his wife Sarah and chidren Shoshana, Emille and Leo who arrived in 1911. Dora, Pearl, Sylvia and Hyem were born in Perth. A committed Jew and family man, he purchased a farm in Goomalling to settle his brother and his family after sponsoring them to Austalia. Morris established a second hand business in William Street, which he ran with his wife for many years. He was a respected member of the community, always believing in assisting those less fortunate than himself. He maintained friendly relationships with the wider community, where his ability to speak several languages stood him in good stead.
