Left Liverpool 1940. Took 9 weeks to get to Fremantle 60 first class passengers plus 500 soldiers and 500 children. BATORY was escorted by 20 warships. The troops were left in Singapore, the children went onto the Eastern States. 2 books written on the cruise, one titled The Singing Ship by Meta Maclean.

  • Can anyone remember my mother Nan Axon and her twin sister Sheila who were on the Batory sailing from Liverpool in August 1940. Her home town was Grimsby.
