Born in 1900 was conscripted in 1916 to the Alpini Corps and saw action in the trenches of Veneto from 1916 - 1918. One of 8 to return out of 250 men. Upon completion of service returned home to become part of La Guardia Regia. He resigned when the Fascists came to power and went home. With no job prospects in his home town, he decided to come to Australia to join a friend who had come earlier. He only visited Italy in 1970 briefly.
