Possibly Gypsy origin. William indentured to Burges 'Tipperary' York. By 1849 'Tenant Farmer'. William bought land near Toodyay, called it 'Salt Valley'. Daughter Caroline married Benjamin Hannett, Dempster Foreman, Esperance. She nursed Aborigine, Tommy Windich, guide to Sir John Forrest, until his death in 1876.

  • There is no evidence at all that the family had gypsy origins. This was speculation in the publication "In Search of Elizabeth", but no evidence is provided.

  • My wife is a descendant of William and Diana Roser. I have researched the family and there is no evidence of any gypsy associations. The entry needs to be amended. Also, daughter Elizabeth married convict James Osborne who came out on the Scindian in 1850. For more see my website.
