At 13 Rodriguez was enrolled as a noviciate at Samos in Galicia. At 16 he arrived at the Benedictine monastery, New Norcia. At 21 he ventured to the Kimberley where he worked as a station-hand, builder and sheep station owner. He married a Nygkina woman, and today lives in Broome.
