Read their story

There were 6 in our family, 2 boys and 2 girls. The youngest, Fiona, became very unwell after leaving Cape Town, on our way to Sydney. We had to leave the ship at Fremantle. I believe Fiona was the first patient in the (then) new children's wing at Fremantle Hospital. The family were housed in the Nissan Huts at Point Walter and eventually moved down to Orelia. All our belongings, including clothes, went on to Sydney and were returned some time later. The Banks in Ireland closed for quite some time due to the strike and we had to make do on what cash and travellers cheques we had on us. I also had to do a driving test in Perth, as my licence was with our belongings.
