John Lewis emigrated with his wife, Ida, and three children - Eddy, Nona and Tim. He had been in the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) for 24 years and then retrained as a technical teacher. On arrival in Australia he taught at Latrobe High School in Tasmania.
