Martyn settled in Sydney where his older brother Michael was living. In October 1971 he married Margaret Hamilton of Launceston, Tasmania, and in 1974 they moved to Hobart where Martyn worked at the University of Tasmania in the very early days of computing.
His parents Les and Dorothy also came to Tasmania from London, and lived a few kilometres down the road from Martyn and Margaret in South Hobart.
