Read their story
James & Ruth Read (nee Hopkins) came to Swan River Colony with 5 children. They were married at age 15 in Dorset (28/8/1815) & had to have permission to marry. One child, James, died in England (28/11/1827). Lived on Rottnest in 1830's. Was a Garden Island farmer & boatman in 1840's & lived on Garden Island for about 28 years. Owned a Lot in Fremantle in 185). Ruth died in 1873 & is possibly buried in Skinner St Cemetery, Fremantle. James went to SA & died in Goolwa 1878.
