James Gold Rankin and Jeannie Erskine McDougall married in Glasgow in 1906. They emigrated with their young family of five children, Margaret, Alexander, Mary, Margory, and Hugh, sailing on the ORMONDE. After living briefly in Subiaco, WA, they moved to the Tweed River in northern NSW to farm bananas. Prior to James' death the family settled in Sydney.
