He arrived alone and went to work in Kulin for a local farmer. Later he bought land. In 1932 he went to live in Fremantle and for many years worked for a local Customs Firm. He married a local girl, Doreen Bolton and they had 4 children, 2 died young. He was survived by his daughter and son. His love of the countryside stayed with him all his life.
