At 19 years of age, travelled alone, leaving his mother, father, two sisters & one brother. Pietro came to Australia seeking work allowing him to earn money to send back to his family in Italy. He married Franca Parrella in Perth, WA on 20 July 1957. They have three daughters - Teresa, Rosaria and Tina. (Peter and Franca did know each other in Italy).
