Martin jumped ship (because of cruelty on board) in Fremantle in 1914, aged 16 years. In 1915 underaged but enlisted 1st WW. Returned after war, married and had 7 children. In 1940 enlisted 2nd WW. After war returned to Australia and led a happy life in his adopted country.
