My first job on arrival in 1958 was the State Government railways. I started work at Perth Station and later moving to Assistant Conductor on the Westland Train, travelling between Perth and Kalgoorlie. I also worked as “bullion escort” on the Kalgoorlie train escorting the gold to Perth. My final position was as ticket conductor on the suburban trains, leaving after 6 years. We moved to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1965. For family reasons, returning to Perth in 1967, then spending the rest of my working career as a Sales Representative.
