Mate joined the thriving Slav community in the Swan Valley. His wife Lucy & son Peter arrived in 1947. Sons Brian, Denis & Jack born in WA. Mate purchased a vineyard in Herne Hill in 1949 - his home & secondary workplace for the rest of his life.
