Manuel Pereira was among the first group of Portuguese Migrants to Western Australia in 1952. It took 73 days to sail from Cape Town to Fremantle on the 'North Cape' a 77ft Sardine boat. His diary account of the journey serves as a testament to the difficulties they faced on the open sea.
