Arrived at Fremantle from Germany day before my 17th birthday. Neither Mother or I spoke English. First worked on a farm at Coolup then on the Mundaring Weir Dam. Joined the WA Police in 1960. Believe that at the time I was only the second New Australian from a non-English country to be accepted into the Force. Served 19 years as CIB detective. Retired after 32 years with the rank of Chief Inspector.
