In 1924 Panayotis deserted Greece on his own on board the 'Amazonia' to Fremantle, 3 weeks after an arranged marriage. Worked in Beverley, Mingenew, Margaret River, Three Springs and finally Geraldton. During the war (1942) when Japanese invaded Darwin and Onslow, he was sent to Onslow for 'Home Defence' doing morse code.
