Simon came to Australia as a whaler, and worked at the original Point Cloates and Albany whaling stations. In Fremantle he met Margit, another Norwegian, daughter of Carl and Inger Andersen. Margit had arrived in Australia in 1905. They married 1924 and had 2 children, son Ivan and daughter Claire.
