Margit came with her mother Inger and sisters Ella and Klara to join her father Carl Andersen, who had arrived in 1901 and was Master of a coastal schooner. She married Simon Olsen, a Norwegian sailor employed in the coastal trade. They had two children, son Ivan, and daughter Claire.
