Arrived as a 13 yr old on same ship as Governor Hutt. No records of first few years. As a 20 yr old, worked the Northam/York area as a farmhand. In 1856 married 18 yr old Eleanor Mead & leased 'Jangelin' farm Northam, which is now a part of 'Muresk College. Had 12 children, all born at ‘Jangelin”.

  • Matthew Oliver was the ninth (9th) child of George and Charlotte (nee Hill) Oliver. George was a farmer/labourer and had twelve (12) children. In 1856 Matthew married Eleanor Jane Mead - their wedding certificate is in the York Museum.
