O'Dea Edward. Or Edmund. Born 1819, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Son of Edward & Mary (nee Burke). Convicted of sheep stealing 10.7.1849 at Co.Clare. Transported to Australia for 10yrs on the 'Robert Small'. Left Ireland March 1853, arrived Fremantle 19.8.1853. Aged 34 years. Married to Margaret Murphy at the age of 40 in Toodyay, or Newcastle as it was then known. Father of Mary, Patrick, Michael, Edward, Thomas, Ivan (known as John) Margaret, William, Annie, James and Elizabeth. Farmed at Nunyle and Roseland. Later lived at Chitavin Farm, North Wongamine. Died aged 87 years 20/4/1906 and is buried at Toodyay Cemetery, and there are two more people buried in the same area, possibly wife Margaret and maybe James who appears to have died early, or the old grandmother. Joseph Brown his grandson he talked of. Edward is mentioned in several of the early history of Newcastle, and appears to have been a good farmer, father and citizen.
O'Dea Edward, born 1886, fouth child of Edward and Margaret O'Dea of Chitavin Farm, North Wongamine remained single.
