After arrival, Jack worked as a lumper on the wharves at Fremantle. Married Ada French (née Perrett) in August 1903, and lived in East Fremantle with their four children. Later a seaman, he died of typhoid aboard the Rachel Cohen in 1922 and was buried at sea off Exmouth.
