The eldest son of Con and Annie Murphy of Tipperary, John arrived in Fremantle in 1949 seeking a new life. A soldier by trade, he served with the Australian Army in Korea 1950-52. In 1957, John married Nora Cunningham, of Dublin and together raised four children Wayne, Sean, Kieran and Janeen.
