Moon Chow was the first recorded Chinese to arrive in the colony. He settled in Fremantle and became a respected carpenter and boat builder. He married Mary Thorpe (age 18) in 1847. Moon's death in 1877 resulted in vehicular speed limits and compulsory lights for night use in Fremantle streets.

  • Chow Moon died in Fremantle 1877 after being knocked down and run over by a mail cart in the street. Would have been buried in the old Skinner St cemetery, Fremantle. Records for Aug 1875-March 1897 are missing.
