Arrived in Australia at the age of 18 to be met by father who had migrated some 17 years earlier. Originally employed as a tobacco grower on Michelides Tobacco Plantation No 8, Donnelly. Worked on various timber mills before buying a tobacco farm at Gibellini Road, West Manjimup.
