I came to Australia as an Assisted Nominated Dependent, destined for Sydney. However, to spare me the rough seas of the Great Australian Bight, my fiance had organised for me to fly East. So I disembarked, leaving my newly found friends as well as my luggage to sail on. As I stood on the pier in Fremantle watching the ‘Fairsea' sail off into the sunset, I felt very alone. The only familiar soul on this vast continent, my fiance, was thousands of miles away.I shed some tears, then set off for the airline office in Perth to collect my ticket.
Although I have never lived in WA both our sons call Perth home, and it is for their sake that I would like my name inscribed on the Welcome Walls.

We came to australia as assisted migrants with our two daughters Corinne 8, and Michelle 9mths. We sailed on the Fairsea (very rough trip) and no milk for babies. Left southampton 29th Nov. 1966 Freemantle-adelaide- melbourne (new years eve) onto Sydney woolshed wharf, villawood hostel for 1 night and then the old rattler to brisbane. Stayed at Wacol hostel for 6 months bought a house just outside brisbane, and have never been sorry to make the move.
