Sandy, born Alexander, son of Arthur and Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He moved to England and married in 1957 to Londoner Doris Eleanor Sharp, daughter of Thomas and Charlotte, then had two sons, James and Terence. When Wood Machinist work became scarce the family moved to Perth.
