Concetta Merendino came to Australia in 1926 aged 5½. She is the oldest of ten children. Her parents were Salvatore and Guiseppina Merendino. In 1943 Concetta married Emanuelle Spinella, and together they had three children, Rose, Josie and Rita. Concetta ran a convenience store with her brother Luigi for five years.
