Ilario (Nicu) Mercuri settled in Waroona on arrival, working as a labourer, before going to the north-west, where he worked in the Wittenoom Asbestos Mine & in Port Hedland with E.P.T. & Transfield. After returning to Italy to marry, he settled with his wife in North Perth where he worked in the construction industry until his retirement.
