John McKiernan arrived in Fremantle as a migrant sponsored by the Catholic Episcopal Migration and Welfare Assoc. He spent the first four years at the Christian Brothers Agricultural School, Tardun. He married Joy Kenney on 8/3/1958, having children Roseanne, Dianne and Peter with most time spent in the wheatbelt.
