Stepping ashore, vowing never to go to sea again, John was a dynamic, gregarious person whose successful business career, from country store-keeping to managing Bateman's warehouse and the Fisherman's Co-op, culminated in establishing a Fremantle fishing company. In 1957 John represented Australian Fisheries on a trade mission to USA.
