They farmed on a small holding in Dewars Pool (Toodyay Shire) upgrading to a larger property in the same area, when things improved (Mud Block Home). John McCluney born 1835 in Ireland, married Margaret McGuiness (born 1833 Ireland) in 1855. John McCluney died 23.6.1906, his wife died 14.4.1903. Both are buried in cemetery at St Philip's Church, Culham. Children Sarah (1859), Jane (b 1862 d 1918), John (b 1864 d 1933), Mary Ann (b 1867) and John (b 1871 d 1907).
John McCluney was a farmer at Toodyay, employing 4 Ticket of Leave men 1864-1874. (Ref: Bicentennial Dictionary of Western Australians 1988. Author Rica Erikson.
The descendants continued farming in the same area but on a larger farm until 1952,
