In 1958, at age fourteen, I travelled unaccompanied aboard Skaubryn from Germany to Fremantle. In 1961 I joined the ARA, retired as a Major; my military career included three active tours in South Vietnam. I completed university studies, pursued a business career, raised a family and am a published author.

My arrival date in Fremantle, at age thirteen aboard the ship Skaubryn, occurred on 18 December 1957, not 1958. The ship caught fire and sank in the Indian Ocean on 1st April 1958.
