The family of 10 children lost 3 brothers during WW2; Hans-Joachim, Uwe and Walter. They were preceded by Otto's brother Walter, in 1952, who worked for Shell in North Fremantle. The Markmanns came to Australia for a better life and to escape the horrors of WWII.
