Fred worked as plumber, sheet metal worker, gasfitter and A grade welder for various plumbing companies in Perth. In 1967 he started his own plumbing company which he ran successfully, retiring at age 65. In 1963 he married Heidi who also arrived at Fremantle on the same ship. They had 2 sons Andrew and David. Fred died in an accident on the family property in March 2004.
