Chas went North-west as a Surveyors assistant, living in a tent under harsh conditions, to establish the mining townships there. He married June Heffernan (met on board) and they had two sons, Gavin & Gordon. He returned to Wittenoom in 1969 as Area Manager for Hancock Wright.
