The Lucas family left from Kent, England on Avis (Vanessa's) 5th birthday. The children went to Margaret River school. Father, Percy (49 yrs old) was offered a job as a fencing contractor but they gave it to a younger man. He then got a job on the Mill at Witchcliffe.
