Frank (who, for some odd reason I remember as Bill) taught me at Hale. I have, always had, a very deep respect and affection for his teaching. My first memory of him was at 9 going on 10, the year before I joined his class, my best year in all my schooling, due largely to his love of teaching, literature and learning. He bellowed out my name (I was misbehaving in the school yard at break) I immediately like him: an adult without malice in his heart for children, I thought, what a rare find!

I have very fond memories of Mr Longley as my class teacher at Hale School. He was a keen disciplinarian but always willing to explain anything not understood by any student in the class. His stories of his war years in England and his fight with polio which required him to use two walking sticks kept us engrossed. We later crossed paths again years later when he was involved with Basketball WA at Perry Lakes and I was playing there on Friday nights.
